Wellness Council Update
The Robert Frost Wellness Council has already had a busy year filled with success. Approximately 50 students with guidance from parent volunteers have accomplished the following so far:
3 grants
1. FUTP60 $500 for Breakfast Items and Healthy Challenge Calendars and Kickoff (August)
2. FUTP60 $1,460 for Hula Hoop Assembly and 5 Hula Hoops per class and continuation Healthy Challenge Calendars (October)
3. Healthy Lifestyle Grant: $1,300 for Field trip to Hy-Vee and Food Coop. Deep freeze for reusable ice packs, coolers for each grade level to encourage healthy (perishable) snacks (November)
Awarded Best Breakfast Challenge for State of South Dakota for our Yogurt Parfait Station we will be receiving a container to encourage recycling of plastic milk jugs.
Awarded as a Touchdown School by completing all 6 challenges for the year.
Congratulations to our students and all of their hard work in encouraging healthy eating and physical activity every day!!
Holiday Celebration
Students will have a special holiday celebration on Thursday, December 20th starting with treats and an activity in the classroom at 1:20. Everyone will meet in the gym at 2pm for the holiday sing-along! Everyone is welcome to wear Santa hats for this event. School is out at 2:45 and will resume Thursday, January 3rd, 2013. Enjoy the holiday break!
First and Fourth Grade Wake-Up-to-Wellness Breakfast
Parents of first and fourth graders are invited to join their child Thursday, December 20th from 7:00-7:45 am in the multi-purpose room for our Wake Up to Wellness breakfast hosted by the Fuel Up to Play 60 Wellness Council. This is an opportunity for all 1st and 4th grade students and their parents to enjoy a healthy, nutritious breakfast to start out their day. In addition we will be serving up yummy Yogurt Parfaits! Studies show that by eating a healthy breakfast, students not only have a better overall diet quality but also have higher academic performance, school attendance, psychosocial function and mood. This event is free and sponsored by the Fuel Up to Play 60 Wellness Council. Hope to see you there!
Holiday Food Drive
Robert Frost Student Council presents:
A Holiday Food Collection for the Children’s Inn!
December 3rd – December 14th
Each grade is invited to bring the following items:
Kindergarten: Cake and Brownie mixes
1st Grade: Canned Soup
2nd Grade: Cereal
3rd Grade: Canned Fruit
4th Grade: Canned Vegetables
5th Grade: Cereal bars, granola bars, or Poptarts
Barnes and Noble Book Fair
Please join us at Barnes and Noble on Friday, December 7th, for the Robert Frost Polar Express Book Fair from 6 – 8pm. There will be MANY activities for all to enjoy including:
- student scavenger hunt
- students’ art on display
- treats at the cafe, including a speciality drink named just for Robert Frost
- stories read by Robert Frost volunteers
- gift wrappers
- wish list table for the teachers and the library
- visit with the “tail waggin tutors”
